About this event
Selecting an appropriate journal is an important step in the publication process. This workshop will introduce strategies and tools for identifying journals that match the topic, scope, and intended audience of a manuscript. Participants will learn how to evaluate journals by reviewing their aims and scope, peer review practices, indexing, publication timelines, and open access options. The session will explain commonly used indicators, including Journal Impact Factor, CiteScore, journal rankings, and the h-index, while discussing their limitations. Participants will also learn about open access publishing opportunities available through Rutgers University Libraries and ways to recognize potentially deceptive journals.
